Men. Heroes. Gods.

Ancient civilization created the cult of a Hero – a mortal man who, through exceptional courage and victory, as well as wisdom and talent, performed feats that only gods were capable of, destroying monsters and establishing new standards of human existence.

The reward was eternal glory and in some cases the apotheosis – acceptance into the host of the gods.

Such was Hercules who after his death joined the Pantheon on Mount Olympus.

Achilles also became a god whose cult was widespread among the Greeks of the Northern Black Sea and Crimea, and his sanctuary and oracle in ancient times were located on the island of Λευκή, or Ἀχιλλέως νῆσος, the Isle of Achilles – these days known worldwide as the Snake Island of Ukraine.

The values of ancient heroism are reaffirmed in the context of the many challenges facing society and each of us today.

The formula of ancient myths, Men-Heroes-Gods, is being put into practice again today, because personal sacrifice, the ability to overpower when ordinary people become heroes and go to immortality like God-Men, are the realities of the modern world and Ukraine.

A modern Hero is born and, just like the heroes of ancient times, is set up to fight chaos and monsters, restoring the social norms of human existence.

Such heroes are created by Volodymyr and Tetyana Bakhtov in their projects “Portal of Heroes”, “Temple of Heroes”, “Farewell to Hero”, “Heroes and Teacher”, and emphasize the symbolism of fire and plastic expression of the human body.

The works are performed in a combination of two author techniques: heliograffiti (see the section “Heliograffiti. Revival by fire.“) and “terra-theatre” (see the section “Terra-theatre”).
