Birth. Life. Death.

BIRTH. LIFE. DEATH.

In modern times of the fragmentary perception of the world, the postmodern play of values, and hybrid wars, it is urgent to turn to basic ideas and concepts such as Birth – Life – Death – Immortality formulated in Plato’s time and inherited by Western philosophical and theosophical thought.

Based on material evidence and written sources, Volodymyr and Tetiana Bakhtov create artistic versions of ancient initiations and rituals, using mainly two author techniques: heliograffity and “terra-theatre”.

Their triptych “Birth-Life-Death” artistically rethinks the mysterial rites of passage.

For thousands of years, the mysteries had ensured the cultural integrity of ancient civilization through certain types of initiations. They marked important stages of human existence in the universe, enabling a symbolic transition from one state to another and combining profane and sacred dimensions of this existence.

Using the plasticity of the human body and artistic transformations of space, the opposition and combination of feminine and masculine principles and working with the elements of fire, water and earth, the artists create powerful visual metaphors of the main stages of life.
